Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Primary School from Mr. Paul Beverton, Head Teacher.

St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Infant and Junior Schools were built in 1974 when children moved from the old St. Joseph’s site next to St. Agnes Church in Whitley Road.  In September 2010, the schools federated.  We had a shared governing body but two separate schools with two headteachers. After the retirement of the Infant headteacher, the diocese of Arundel and Brighton asked us to become a Primary School. This came about in September 2017.

We take children from ages 4 – 11 years.  We currently have fourteen classes, two in each year group.  There are a high percentage of Catholic families in our school, as well as children from other faith communities.  We are welcoming and inclusive.

Our school is a friendly and caring environment where the individual child is valued and their talents developed.  We have high expectations of all our children and work as a team to achieve them. We believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged, valued, healthy and safe and that promoting Gospel values and our strong Catholic ethos is the most effective way to improve outcomes for all.

We have a committed and talented staff who work hard to deliver high quality education. We provide many opportunities for children to take part in sports events, cultural and creative activities.

At St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Primary School we see partnership with parents as essential for success. We have an Open Door policy and value parents' contribution and support. The majority of our children go on to continue their education at St. Richard’s Catholic College in Bexhill.  We have excellent links and in year 6, a transition programme over three terms.

At St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Primary School we have close links with all our parishes and priests who regularly visit our school to celebrate the sacraments, take assembly and contribute to RE lessons. Our families are encouraged to take an active part in parish life.

The best way to learn more about our school is by visiting and seeing it at first hand. I am always happy to show prospective parents and visitors around.

St. Thomas a Becket staff and children look forward to welcoming you.
