Prayers and Gospel Values

The Beatitudes (Our Gospel Values)

The Sermon on the Mount found in the Gospel of Matthew proclaims some of the richest and most familiar teachings of Jesus: The Beatitudes.

The blue sentences below each Beatitude help to explain the meaning to the children.

The Beatitudes

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Trust God and put him above material things

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

When we are sad, God will comfort us.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

To be kind and loving to all, not just our friends and family.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

To be honest, fair and seek justice.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

To be patient and not only think of ourselves.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Keep our mind, thoughts and decisions good.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Make peace and help others get along.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Do the right thing, even when others may make fun of us or not understand.

Our School Prayer

Loving Father,

We ask for Your help as we journey and grow together in the light of Christ.

May the life of St Thomas a Becket show us how to grow in our love of You.

Give us all the strength we need to live out Our School Mission and the Beatitudes so that all our school community will:

Grow in Faith and Love,

Grow in Trust and Prayer,

Grow in Respect and Kindness,

Grow in Friendship and Forgiveness.

We know that with You all things are possible.

Amen

The Teaching of Gospel (British) Values

St Thomas a Becket Catholic Primary School is a Catholic School which seeks to live out the values of Jesus Christ.

As a Catholic school we are fully committed to the values contained within the Gospels. As modern British values have evolved from a time when we were historically Christian, our Gospel values and British values are fundamentally linked and interwoven.  In 2011, the government defined British Values as democracythe rule of lawindividual libertymutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
